New World Extra![]() Colin Farrell on the banks of the Chickahominy "Now it is dusk and Colin and I are standing next to the Chickahominy and gazing out across the darkening water toward the ship. The shadows of gnarled trees grow long around us. Possibly we are thinking about home and the people we have left behind in this lavender light. The air around Colin Farrell is bright with regret and longing—though he does not say a word. The camera behind us is grinding away, and I may not be in the picture at all—or just a blob to the side. But I try to live in the moment, just in case this is the scene that will survive.... I glance at the sword and dagger on my belt. Both are a little rusty but still impressive. My dagger is about a foot and a half long, and the sword has an intricate handle of curving interlaced strips to protect my hand from slashing if I should find myself in a sword fight. I am altogether pleased with them until I see the sword and dagger set that Colin Farrell has on.... His are bright polished steel with pearl handles, and there is not a spot of rust on them. I confess to a moment of sword and dagger envy there in the twilight. This is perhaps one obvious difference between the actor who makes $20 million and has his own trailer and the actor who makes $5.35/hour and who has to wait in line after the crew is finished before he is permitted to eat a bite of lunch. One of us gets to carry niftier props!" --Joe David Bellamy |
